Dennis Cavanaugh

Member of the Geographical Indications Committee, D.H. Cavanaugh Associates, US

Dennis H. Cavanaugh is an attorney and former intelligence officer with over 30 years of experience representing national and international clients in the areas of intellectual property, international trade, government regulatory compliance, international commercial transactions, technology transfer, and international litigation.

He has represented creative clients and brand owners in litigation and transactions involving copyrights, trademarks, trade dress, unfair competition, geographical indications, anti-counterfeiting, anti-piracy, parallel imports, and customs matters. This has spanned a wide range of industries, including designer and mass market apparel, cosmetics, fashion accessories, music, film, entertainment merchandising, publishing, fine art, pharmaceuticals and over-the-counter drugs, dietary supplements, and high technology. He regularly counsels clients on clearing, registering, licensing and expanding their intellectual property assets in the United States and internationally.

Mr. Cavanaugh is currently a member of ETCA’s Geographical Indications Committee and was a member of the Copyright Committee from 2015 to 2022. In addition to his own practice as D H Cavanaugh Associates, he is also a partner in Cavanaugh & Mitchell, an internationally-focused law firm providing global legal and business services, and a founding partner of Vendôme Partners, an international business consulting firm focused on fashion and luxury goods, providing advice on brand expansion, licensing, strategic planning, concept development, and retail real estate development.

Mr. Cavanaugh received his J.D. degree from New York Law School and is a member of the New York Bar and numerous Federal courts. He divides his time between the United States and Europe.
