DESCRIPTION

The Design Committee of ECTA works on relevant and actual issues of the protection and enforcement of industrial designs. The diversity of the Design Committee members constitutes a true platform for exchanging experiences and discussions leading in the recognition and evaluation of the European, international and national design law issues, elaboration of solutions and comparative studies and expression thereof in the form of position papers. The agenda of the Design Committee comprises the study and discussion of all the arising matters which concern industrial designs protection as well as constant analysis of the legal instruments and tools of designs in order to propose its development and possible harmonisation. Enforcement matters are also on the agenda.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Design Committee is to promote knowledge and professionalism in European design law and practice and to serve as ECTA’s expert forum and collective voice on design protection and the enforcement of design rights. The Committee monitors and analyses legislative, judicial and practical developments at EU and national level across Europe, as well as developments outside Europe where they are relevant to the European IP community. It facilitates the exchange of knowledge and experience among ECTA members and develops positions and recommendations reflecting the common views of ECTA’s membership and its commitment to a balanced IP system.

By contributing its expertise and input to ECTA’s engagement with relevant institutions and organisations, the Committee seeks to support the development of a coherent, effective, accessible and balanced design protection system in Europe and to raise awareness of the importance and value of design protection.
