The EUIPO Observatory unveiled a discussion paper on challenges and good practices that e-payment service providers, IP owners and law enforcement authorities are facing to prevent the use of such services for IP-infringing activities.

The e-payment ecosystem is complex and is changing fast, giving rise to new services and types of payment intermediaries. In particular, IPR infringers increasingly engage in sophisticated uses of these services to make the flow of funds more complicated to trace and undermine the investigative measures to detect illegal activity.
