Sign up for the ECTA virtual Round Table - Influencers, super brands and celebs: just fame or a brand with a repute? - 11 February 2021
10/02/2021
The Alicante Round Table is one of ECTA flagship events: a high-level discussion with EUIPO representatives and IP professionals on cutting-edge topics in the field of IP, usually taking place in the city of Alicante, Spain.

This year’s edition Influencers, super brands and celebs: just fame or a brand with a repute? will be held online on 11 February 2021 (16:00 - 17:30 Brussels time) and it’s a unique chance for the majority of IP professionals who do not regularly travel to Alicante to attend the event.

We all know how hard it is to prove the renown character of the trade mark, how much evidence you have to gather and how much time you have to spend on good argumentation. The Massi/Messi case shows that celebrities may be able to rely on their general renown, with little or no evidence. Will the courts apply a similar assessment to super brands, and how famous does a ‘celebrity’ need to be?

You will be welcomed by ECTA Secretary General Carolin Kind (Greyhills Rechtsanwälte, DE) who will briefly introduce the event and our Association before handing over to our skillful moderator Shane Smyth (FRKelly, IE) and speakers: Jordi Güell (Guell IP, ES), Ewa Skrzydlo-Tefelska (Koźmiński University, SK&S, PL), Péter Sipos (EUIPO) and Javier Corrales (Schweppes International Limited, NL).

If you would like to send any advance question to the panel, which you would like to be addressed during the virtual event, kindly enter it via the registration form. Please note that there is also a possibility to submit questions live via the Q&A option.

The virtual round table is open to all and will be held in English via the Zoom Webinar platform. The cost is 40,00€ for ECTA members / 65,00€ for non-members. Students and officials can attend free of charge.

On demand, you will receive a certificate of attendance, in order to request CLE credits from your national Bar Associations, if applicable.

CLE credits are awarded or are positively considered by the responsible authorities in the Benelux, France, Poland, Germany, Estonia, Italy, UK, Cyprus, Hungary, Romania and Lithuania, among others. ECTA has contacted the responsible organizations in all other Member States, where CLE credits are required.

Seize this year’s opportunity to attend the Alicante Round Table virtually and reserve your place!
