We wish to inform ECTA members that the EUIPO has published a new set of Boards of Appeal case-law research reports:

• Trade marks contrary to public policy or accepted principles of morality (October 2025) - available in EN, ES, DE, FR, IT
• Thomson Life doctrine and the concept of “independent distinctive role” of elements in a sign (November 2025) - available in EN, ES, DE, FR, IT

These reports are the result of discussions within the Consistency Circles and the General Consistency Meeting of the Boards of Appeal and reflect the views at the date of publication.

The reports are working documents and do not have any binding effect on the Boards of Appeal.
