ECTA, INTA and MARQUES submit joint comments on designs review
23/02/2021
ECTA has recently joined forces with INTA and MARQUES in order to submit comments on the European Commission's Inception Impact Assessment on the review of the Design Directive and Community Design Regulation.

The three associations strongly support the intention of the European Commission to review the EU legislation on design protection and agree that there are some shortcomings that need to be addressed to modernise the legal framework, making it more harmonised, user-friendly and in line with the digital and green transitions.

The paper also underlined some issues that were not addressed in the Inception Impact Assessment such as the enforcement, international dimension, unregistered designs, and the implications of 3D printing.

You can find the joint comments by consulting the position paper here.

This is the second time the three organisations submit joint feedback to the European Commission in relation to design issues. The earlier joint paper submitted can be found here.

-----

We would like to thank the ECTA Design Committee as well as the Design teams of INTA and MARQUES for their relevant contribution to this joint position paper. We are looking forward to continuing to contribute and partecipatie in the upcoming stages of the reform.

ECTA Design Committee is strongly involved in design-related matters. If you are interested and would like to join this Committee, seize the chance of General Committee Elections and apply by 5 March 2021.
