Carlo Sala
Member of the ECTA Supervisory Board, Copyright Committee and SME Task Force, Salalex, IT

Carlo Sala graduated in Law from Milan Catholic University (Italy) in 1991. He is married with three (grown) children.

Carlo is a lawyer with several years of experience in IP law (trademarks, know how, patents, utility models, design, copyright), unfair competition, advertising, labeling, IP-related contractual issues, including licensing and due diligence reporting. He represents commercial clients in all types of litigation before all courts in Italy and before the competent EU bodies (e.g., EU Courts and EUIPO), where his expertise in all IP related matters has been recognized by his clients, including law firms in need of specialized help.

Carlo’s legal record includes cases which have been referred to in most of the major legal reports and in the business press, such as (in the 90s) the first Italian precedent affirming the application of trademark law to domain names, in recent times a number of landmark cases acknowledging copyright protection to the design of a well-known shape of shoes, and patent cases applying the ‘doctrine of equivalents’.

Carlo has been taking part in the design group EUIPO’s “Stakeholder Quality Assurance Panels Project” (European Trademark Association) since last year.

Carlo is also the author of articles in legal journals and has been speaker at IP events in Italy and elsewhere. Carlo collaborated with the Chair of IP Law at Milan University in the 2000-2010 decade.
