Heidi Härkönen, Senior Lecturer, University of Turku, FI

Heidi Härkönen (LL.D., trained on the bench) is Senior Lecturer at the University of Turku Faculty of Law. She was awarded an honorary adjunct professorship in the field of fashion law in 2025 by the University of Turku. Härkönen also works as the Editor-in-Chief of IPRinfo magazine, which popularizes scientific research for IP practitioners. Her award-winning doctoral thesis (2021) concerned the role of copyright in promoting sustainable development in the fashion sector. Her research focus is on using law as a tool to shape the fashion industry towards holistic fairness and sustainability, taking an IP law point of view and focusing especially in copyright and design laws. Having studied fashion design prior to her law studies, the process of sustainable fashion creation is close to her heart and a big part of her life, and she also practices non-commercial fashion design.
