John Milligan is an Irish qualified solicitor, an Irish registered trade mark agent and a European Trade Marks and Designs Attorney.

He specialises in Intellectual Property Law, and has extensive experience in advising on all aspects of both contentious and non-contentious intellectual property matters, including trade mark protection, passing off, design rights, copyright, patent infringement and revocation and database rights. In particular, John is an expert on trade mark strategies and he manages international trade mark portfolios for a wide range of multinational businesses in the food and beverage, financial services and technology sectors. On the enforcement side, he has acted in some of the most high profile Commercial Court cases in Ireland in recent years involving trade mark, copyright and design rights infringement.

He publishes articles widely in various journals with a focus on intellectual property protection and he tutors on the topic of Intellectual Property Law to trainee solicitors on the Professional Practice Course at the Law Society of Ireland.

John was named Rising Star of the Year for Ireland at the 2025 Managing IP Awards and is regularly listed in the WTR 1000, Chambers Europe, and Legal 500 rankings.

He is a law graduate of Trinity College Dublin (LLB) and holds a Masters in Law (LLM) from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
