John Wilks

John Wilks, a London-based partner at global law firm DLA Piper, has extensive experience in a range of intellectual property issues, as well as advertising and marketing law.

John's practice has a particular focus on the media and sport, and the consumer goods, food and retail sectors. His IP work includes in particular trade mark and copyright litigation and advisory work (including for one of the biggest brands in sport and several well-known consumer brands). His advertising work includes campaign clearance, regulatory complaints, and international promotions. He has particular experience of advising clients (from global banks to major food and beverage brands) on many aspects of making environmental advertising claims, including contesting important regulatory cases, clearing cross-border ad campaigns, and devising global compliance policies. John co-leads DLA Piper’s global advertising practice, and is editor of its popular Advertising Laws of the World and Prize Promotions Around the World guides.
