Ugo Merlone
Licensed Psychologist, Associate Professor, Department of Psychology, University of Torino IT

Professor Merlone studied Mathematics (M.S.) and Human Resources Management and Organizational Development (M.A) at University of Turin; he holds a Ph.D in Mathematics applied to Economic Decisions at the University of Trieste. He studied Negotiation and Mediating Disputes at Harvard Law School, completed the Hostage Negotiation curriculum required by the International Association of Hostage Negotiators, and participated in several crisis negotiations training events offered by the New York Association of Hostage Negotiators.

Professor Merlone is the author of more than 80 publications in the field of modeling complex human interactions in organizations and societies which have appeared in major journals such as Organization Science, European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, Journal of Mathematical Sociology, Journal of Mathematical Psychology, Journal of Economic Dynamics & Control, Psychology of Music and Trends in Organized Crime. He has written several books and his bestseller “Negoziare in modo efficace” was published by il Mulino.

He has been Visiting Scholar and Professor at Harvard University, the London School of Economics, University of Arizona and Universidad de Chile.

At the University of Turin, he teaches Analytic Models for Organizations and Strategic Decision Economics in the Graduate Program in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and Methodology and Tools for Forensic Psychology and Conflict Management and Negotiation in the Graduate Program in Criminology and Forensic Science.

He has trained Italian law enforcement officials in Crisis Negotiation and Communication and Europol analysts in Social Network Analysis.
