European Commission: Consultation on the revision of the EU GIs systems in agricultural products and foodstuffs, wines and spirit drinks
22/01/2021
The European Commission (DG AGRI) has recently launched a public consultation on the revision of the EU GIs systems in agricultural products and foodstuffs, wines and spirit drinks.

The EU protects almost 3400 names of specific products under one of its EU quality schemes: Geographical Indication (GI), Protected Designations of Origin (PDO), Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) and Traditional Speciality Guaranteed (TSG).

The aim of the consultation is to gather contributions on the major challenges identified that would need to be addressed in the revision, as well as their underlying causes, the policy options that can be envisaged to address these challenges and their respective impacts.

Contributions to the consultation are possible until 9 April 2021 via https://ec.europa.eu/info/law/better-regulation/have-your-say/initiatives/12664-Revision-of-the-EU-geographical-indications-GI-systems-in-agricultural-products-and-foodstuffs-wines-and-spirit-drinks/public-consultation
