COVID-19 pandemic is affecting the whole world, putting at serious risk our health and safety. Given the scarcity of resources, infringers are taking advantages through providing a high number of counterfeit and substandard products related to the prevention and care of the disease, such as masks, medical devices, disinfectants, sanitizers or test kits.

To protect the safety of us all and fight this IP crime, the EU bodies are jointly working to target the online and offline illicit trade in this regard. In particular, the EUIPO Observatory has put its IP Enforcement Portal at the disposal of right holders and enforcers, in order to share any accurate and concrete information.

The tool is free of charge, secure and multilingual. It contains contact details of enforcement authorities and rights holders, product information such as photos of genuine and counterfeit products, supply chains of legal products and other information that can help enforcement authorities in their work.

At the EU-level, Europol and the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) are strongly engaged in fighting this type of crime.
